Yorgos Lanthimos is a screenwriter and director born in Athens, Greece. During the 90s, he directed many ballet and dance-related videos together with Grecian choreographers, as well as TV commercials, music videos, short videos and plays. He began his career in the film industry in 2000: his second feature film Dogtooth was awarded the Prize “Un Certain Regard” during the 62 Cannes Film Festival and received an Academy nomination for “Best Foreign Movie”, The Lobster won the Jury Award during the 68 Cannes Film Festival and also received an Academy nomination for “Best Screenplay”. The Killing of a Sacred Deer was awarded the prize for “Best Screenplay” during the 70 Cannes Film Festival and his latest movie The Favorite – starringOlivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz – was previewed during the 75 Venice Film Festival in 2018 and won the Jury Prize; Olivia Colman was awarded the Coppa Volpi for “Best Female Performance” and the movie got ten prestigious Academy Award nominations. Also, Olivia Colman won the Oscar for “Best Actress”.
