LE PAPIER JAPON by Manuel Peluso

Biographical note of the author
Student in Film and New Media, Manuel Peluso works as a filmmaker. Since 2014 is co-founder of MiraDoc, an educational project about  the media and the documentary.

Synopsis
A young father of Arles deals with the closure of the paper mill where he has worked for years. Thanks to some European funds, he decides to move to Japan with his whole family, in search of those papermaker masters that for centuries have been holding the knowledge of the manufacture of an ecological and durable sheet that can be used for several purposes. After a year of training, once back in France, he decided to settle in an old abandoned factory with his wife, and creates the first European laboratory that produces sheets of paper following the ancient Japanese method of nagashizuki. Awarded by UNESCO for being a 100% environmental friendly production, this small family business works today with the Van Gogh Foundation, the Vatican Library and different artists, and international designers; showing that the high quality of a handmade product can really make a difference.

Biographical note of the author
During her BSc she shot her first short film entitled “The ROPE WATCH”  being also present in the Farcume Festival 2012 and the official “SOON”.

Synopsis
The documentary intends to give an overview of one of the methods used to produce charcoal in Portugal, as this is still one of the methods that comes close to the secular ones that were still very active in the past decades. This tour of the world of coal passes through the cutting of trees, that gives rise to it, and will guide until the sale of the product at the production site.

Biographical note of the author
Writer, artist and filmmaker, Vaughan was educated at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard where he specialized in Latin, Greek and Sanskrit. He is the founder and artistic director of Unruowe (2001). His book of poetry, At Eclipse, was published in 2002 in London. His films have been screened at various film festivals around Europe.

Biographical note of the authors 

Morghen Nadia: she lives and works in Milan. In 2012 she obtained the degree as a film maker at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (National Academy of Cinema) of Milan. In 2012 and 2013 she worked on the production on several videos.
Rosà Irene: she is a graphic and visual designer based in the north of Italy, with over 3 years of studio experience. She has worked as visual graphic designer during 3 years, first in an Italian creative agency and later in a web studio based in Barcelona.
Pasini Francesca: she graduated from the Politecnico of Milan in movie design and followed an internship at the Movie Design Lab where she worked on video editing, post-production and graphics. She worked as Junior Art Director for two years and is interested in graphics, video and tactile design.

Summary
It’s a short story of a shoemaker who starts his daily job at 6 o’clock in the morning and ends at 6 o’clock in the evening. But his story doesn’t really ends when he closes his shop because every pair of shoes has its own life and it seems that Bepi is the depository of many other stories.

Jones Carolyn: has worked as author and director on several film and video formats, but is better known for her socially proactive photographic portraitures. She has traversed the globe to interview and photograph individuals who offer insight into experiences such as living with AIDS, the pains of adolescence and motherhood and the sacred art of care giving.

Synopsis

If there were in the world 100 people, only 1 would be a health worker. With a population of 1.21 billion people, India’s ratio of health workers per 10000 citizens is incredibly even lower. However, NGOs in India are working to train citizens to enable them to work as health advisors and caregivers within their local communities. Rekha Bengarwa is one of those trainers and spends her days educating and taking care of her neighbours while helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as polio.

Biographical note of the authors

Verrocchio Emiliano: he works as freelance photographer in Uk, Finland and Italy. In 1996 he graduated in Architecture from the University of Pescara.
Vecchi Ilaria: she graduated in Oriental Languages ​​from the Ca ‘Foscari University in Venice Afterwards, she got a master’s degree in Environment, Politics and Globalization at the King’s College, London University and a certificate as documentary filmmaker at the London Film Academy. She produces and directs documentaries on ethnographic, social and political issues and collaborating with other production companies on pre-production and post-production phases of video projects.

DeCollibus Mattia: he has gotten a master’s degree in production image released from the academy for the arts and sciences of the image in L’Aquila and has graduated in mass media at the same university.

Synopsis

In the late 1970s a young man came back from the US with a number of second hand vinyl records and opened the first independent record shop in West London. The small record shop became then a label. The label finally evolved into a major within the music production and distribution industry. This is the story of a little shop which became big, independent and famous and which continues keeping its authentic punk spirit that characterised the activity and its employees since the very first days.

Synopsis
The documentary shows the experience of the Logos Hope, OM Ships International began in 1970 as part of the global Christian training and outreach movement.
An international crew and staff, representing over 45 nations, live and work on board the OM ships. All of them are volunteers, usually staying on board for two years. Many serve in their professional capacity as officers, seamen, carpenters, welders and electricians, or as doctors, nurses or cooks, while others come to participate in the training programme apprehend a profession.
